Fembohaus - Discover 1000 years of city history on 4 floors.

All this is reflected in a unique way in the Nuremberg City Museum "Fembohaus".

It is located in the old town of Sebald at Burgstraße 14 and was built between 1591 and 1596.

The Fembohaus became the City History Museum in 1953 and houses the most important events in Nuremberg's history on 4 floors.

From exhibits about the outstanding position as an imperial city in the Holy Roman Empire, to a splendidly panelled hall from around 1600, which shows how people lived in those days, to a model of the Preller House, the house of the richest merchant in the city at that time.

There are also contemporary paintings on important themes of the city to discover, such as the Peace Feast of 1649 by Joachim von Sandrart to celebrate the Peace of Westphalia.

I was particularly impressed and moved by the 3D guided tour of Germany's largest synagogue. The main synagogue was already demolished by the National Socialists in 1938. The Technical University of Darmstadt created a virtual tour that shows what the inside of Nuremberg's main synagogue once looked like. Extremely worth seeing!

The Fembohaus also houses the so-called "sounding city model", a three-dimensional wooden city map of the old town, which was completed in 1939 after four years of work and is one of the most detailed city models in Germany.
