My favourite bridge in Nuremberg!

Milestone of industrial history

The Kettensteg with the adjacent, newly designed Nägeleinsplatz is a wonderful place to linger. There you can soak up the medieval ambience of the city particularly well.

Today my walk takes me through the old town and across the Kettensteg. Crossing the oldest preserved iron chain bridge in continental Europe, the rippling water of the Pegnitz and the gentle swaying of the bridge through one's own steps has a very calming effect. The bridge is a milestone in industrial history and, incidentally, a beautiful photo motif. The best place to take photos is from the new Nägeleinsplatz. This is a newly designed square directly on the Pegnitz, which invites you to linger and on hot days also offers the possibility of dangling your feet in the cool waters of the Pegnitz. From the Kettensteg itself there is a great view, almost hidden by trees, over the Maxbrücke to the towers of the Lorenzkirche.

The romantic Weißgerbergasse runs not far from the Kettensteg. Depending on the weather, mood and desire, a visit to the various bars, beer gardens and cafés is worthwhile. My personal tip is the Bergbrand coffee roasting house at number 38, where you can buy freshly roasted coffee from sustainable organic cultivation and fair trade, or enjoy it right there in the café with a piece of cake.
Another wonderful tip on hot days is Sara's EisPause, also one of our wonderful insider tips from the VICTORIA team.
So be sure to plan the Kettensteg as part of your city exploration.
A walk in the evening is especially recommended. You will experience the illuminated Nuremberg in a very special way.
