Handthal has exactly one road that leads in and out of it. Therefore, this place is definitely not the end of the world, but it might just be its beginning. What I found annoying as a child, since the place is so hidden and small, I now consider a blessing. The fresh air, the friendly and welcoming locals and the ubiquitous nature turn this little patch of earth into a paradise.
Idyllic with a breathtaking forest for long walks, random deer visiting the village, countless bike paths and even some sights, such as a tree top pathway. Handthal is perfect for anyone that simply needs relaxation in nature. Also, because there is virtually no cell phone reception - you can really get away from the busyness of a city life.
Handthal has 126 citizens, 5 restaurants and 2 neat cafés. Here is so many amazing places to explore! My best tips include: the ruins of the Stollburg castle, the Terroir F Point over the wine history of Franconia, the tree top pathway that starts in Ebrach and leads to Handthal and the Nature conservation centre.
I come from a family business called "Forellenhof", with a restaurant and winery, where we offer guided tours and wine tastings for the guests upon registration and tell you about the history of this place and the wines. So, if you want a tour through the landscapes and vineyards, but also learn something about the history of Franconian wine, you should visit us for sure!
Hiking maps are available in the restaurants and in our winery "Baumann". That way you can be sure to find the right path to reach a desired destination. I look forward to welcoming you to my home village and showing you my piece of heaven!
