The Franconian Switzerland - Hiking, Canoeing, Experiencing nature
Not far from Nuremberg in the east lies the beautiful region of "Franconian Switzerland". The area entices with great hikes, bike tours, canoe trips and much more - perfect for active and hiking-loving families.
One of our favorite hikes leads to the Neideck castle ruins, one of the landmarks of the region. The site is freely accessible to everyone and you have a fantastic view over the valley. In addition to the historic castle, the hike takes you along other monuments and beautiful viewing platforms, never losing sight of the Neideck castle ruin. You hike in a relaxed manner through fairytale forests, along large rocks and wide meadows and visit the Prince Rupprecht Pavilion and the castle Streitburg, among other things.
The circular walk is about 11 km long and leads uphill and downhill on well-surfaced paths.
I recommend sport shoes and to pack a small snack and something to drink. The route offers many great playgrounds for children along the way as well as a handful of places to stop for a Franconian lunch and refreshments.
Franconian Switzerland is known for its numerous beer gardens. With delicious Franconian food, such as bratwurst with sauerkraut or roast pork with dumplings and gravy and usually home-brewed beer. Perfect to relax or recharge your batteries for further activities.
If you still feel like action and adventure after the hike, you can experience a lot more afterwards on a canoe tour on the Wiesent.
Have fun experiencing and discovering!
